We were able to invite a leading scientist from the Weizmann Institute of Science to speak on a highly topical subject. Dr. Eli Galanti from the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences joined us to discuss climate change research and the potential of artificial intelligence in the context of planetary studies.

Quantum computing is arguably one of the most exciting developments at the moment, with the potential to exponentially increase the speed and performance of computers and solve previously unsolvable problems in areas such as cryptography, materials science and optimization. The race to develop the first powerful quantum computer - in which the Weizmann Institute of Science is playing a major role - has implications for many industries and will have a significant impact on the future of the technology.

It was our pleasure to welcome Prof. Roee Ozeri (Vice President of the Weizmann Institute of Science) in Vienna last week. In the Weizmann Lecture 2023 "Fast and Furious: the Quantum Computer Race" Prof. Roee Ozeri gave impressive and comprehensible insights into this highly complex topic and the current state of research in this field.

Rehovot, Israel

From March 26-28, 2023, an exclusive ECWIS delegation traveled to Israel to visit the Weizmann Institute of Science. The visit was organized by ECWIS. The delegation was first welcomed by Prof. Roee Ozeri, Vice President of the Weizmann Institute of Science, who gave the participants an overview of the scientific work of the Weizmann Institute of Science. During the visit, the delegation was given a tour of the entire Institute, attended a number of special lectures, and met and talked with scientists. At the end of the visit, Prof. Alon Chen, President of the Weizmann Institute of Science, hosted a dinner for the delegation.

Hotel Baur au Lac, Zürich

This year, ECWIS hosted its annual gala dinner at the Hotel Baur au Lac in Zurich. After the reception and welcoming remarks by Prof. Alon Chen, President of the Weizmann Institute of Science and Mr. Robert J. Drake, Chairman of the European Committee of the Weizmann Institute of Science, Dr. Sagi Ben-Ami from the Department of Particle Physics and Astrophysics at the Weizmann Institute of Science gave the keynote speech on "Discovering Earth 2.0 - A practical scientific search for habitable planets". The evening was rounded off with a dinner.

It was an honor for us to invite Professor Yehiam Prior from the Weizmann Institute of Science to a round table discussion. In the two-hour event, Professor Yehiam Prior from the Weizmann Institute of Science spoke to a small group of selected guests on the highly topical subject of cyber security in the context of basic research and was also be available for discussion. The event was rounded off with a flying dinner afterwards.

The "Round Table for Science" is a series of events in which an exclusive circle of leading personalities is given an insight into the world and research of the Weizmann Institute of Science. This evening offered a special opportunity for a direct, lively exchange with Professor Yehiam Prior.

Jüdisches Museum Wien

The deputy chairman of the Austrian Friend’s Society of the Weizmann Institute of Scinece, Doz. Peter Knoll, together with Christl Langstadlinger, organized a guided tour of the Jewish Museum on 30 May 2022, where an exhibition on the history of the Rothschild family took place.
